Accordion Trio NZ Champs!

Following on from our own Small Ensemble Evening last week, the Saint Kentigern Accordion Trio, comprising Adam and Maia Perry, and Owen Fan went on to compete both as a group and individually at the South Pacific and New Zealand Accordion Championships, held over Queen’s Birthday weekend at Epsom Girls’ Grammar.

The Trio competed in the international class South Pacific Open Trio/Ensemble, which ran in conjunction with the NZ Championship Open Trio class. Our students performed very well indeed, achieving first place in the NZ class and second place in the international South Pacific class. A quartet from China won the latter.

Individually, the three students also played extremely well and with Maia winning the 12 Years and Under South Pacific/NZ Championship class. Older brother, Adam achieved two firsts and two seconds, with a first in the Light Classical 13-15 Year class and the 14 Year Solo class. Owen achieved first place in the South Pacific Junior Virtuoso Entertainment Championship class 18 Years and Under. All in all a fantastic weekend of competition!

Well done to Maia, Adam and Owen who now look forward to competing at the NZCT Chamber Music Contest this week.
