College Year 7 Camp

Perfect weather and perfect students summed up this year’s camp for our youngest students in Year 7. In a blaze of sunshine they were able to enjoy their outdoor activities from sunrise to sunset.
The annual three day orientation camp is held at Chosen Valley in the Bombay Hills and provides a host of activities and with plenty of new skills to learn. The camp environment, so early in the year, helps to cement friendships amongst our newest students. Activities ranged from tower building and tent pitching, through to orienteering, kayaking, negotiating the confidence course, archery, a bush walk, racing around the rope maze, speeding down the flying fox and in the trolleys and whistling down the waterslide.
The evenings were equally action packed with activities such as the terrors of the Burma Trail. No wonder sleep came so easily at the end of the day - especially for the staff!
If the aim of camp is to challenge students and encourage them beyond their usual comfort zones, yet come through the experience with a sense of enjoyment and pride in their achievements, then this year’s camp hit the mark! Well done to the students for their excellent behaviour, and boundless energy and enthusiasm.
There is an enormous amount of careful planning to ensure trips beyond the campus are challenging, have a true sense of purpose, are safe and run smoothly. We accord our thanks to Head of Year 7, Mr Kevin Taylor along with the team of staff, the senior prefect team students and parents helpers who worked so hard to make the camp such a success.
